$5 million raised to fund access to care and finding cure for breast cancer.

2011 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Visits Washington D.C.

The 2011 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer made its ninth appearance in Washington D.C. from April 30—May 1. More than 2,200 participants from 47 states, including 215 breast cancer survivors, helped raise more than $5 million to fund access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer. During the closing ceremony, Carol Kurzig, President of the Avon Foundation for Women, awarded initial grants totaling $3.14 million to nine local organizations, ensuring the funds raised immediately benefit the community. More grants are slated to be awarded throughout the year to breast cancer programs nationwide.
The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Washington, D.C. also received significant media coverage with more than a dozen reports on local television stations including ABC, NBC, and CW affiliates. Extensive interviews were also conducted for inclusion in a future CBS Sunday Morning national broadcast feature.
Donations are still being accepted for the Avon Walk Washington D.C., and registration is open for women and men to take part in the remaining Avon Walks of 2011: Boston, MA (May 14-15), Chicago, IL (June 4-5), Rocky Mountains, CO (June 25-26), San Francisco, CA (July 9-11), Santa Barbara, CA (September 17-18), New York, NY (October 15-16) and Charlotte, NC (October 22-23).
